The Korea Directors Association (KrDA) had a preparatory committee led by ten Korean representative directors. The Group of Seoul Theater Directors is dissolved in 1991 and the Korea Directors Association was established. More than 300 directors have joined the association.
In order to promote the development of theater art , establish the position of the directors ,and promote the welfare, it is engaged in the fostering of theatrical directors, international exchanges of theatrical directors, publications on theatrical productions, and performances related to theater directors every year. Each year, it hosts festivals like < Korea New Director Festival>, < Director Forum> ,< Lim Hongsik Actor Award> and < Director of the Year> and it has become a major organization.
| 1. Annual Spring Literary One Act Festival Expand the base of theater through communication between new writers and existing directors. Promoting re-performance of outstanding works and developing cultural contents. The feature of the Annual Literary One-Act Festival is to perform a 50-min- work relay show, making people see seven performances a day. | 2. Asia Directors Festival Seeking Internationalization of Korea’s Theater. Up until now, Asia Directors Festival has widened the scope of acting methods through domestic actors' work with foreign directors. It contributed to the opportunity to get to know the culture of each country. The Festival led by the KrDA have contributed greatly to the development of Korean theater by succeeding performances, introducing excellent directors at home and abroad and performing experimental works with Korean actors. |
| 3. Korea’s New Director Festival A project to find new directors in the KrDA. One of the founding purposes of the KrDA is to find and foster new young directors. The KrDA is preparing to meet with new generation directors who will lead the future Korean theater with hosting Korea’s New Director Festival very smoothly and has attempted new programs. It also continues to find and foster new directors in Korea and support to their work activities. |
| 4. The Director Forum This association talks about the difficulties that field directors feel through their work and has tried to solve problem by establishing plans. The director Forum presents the working environment in a better environment for the directors. We publish a booklet every year and keep a record of it. It has selected topics that all generations can have common sense when setting up all forum topics. |

The Director of the Year Award & Emerging Director Award The Director of the Year Award & Emerging Director Award is an award that pays attention to the directors who have stood out every year and the young directors who have shown the possibilities. The Director of the Year has been building his own world through a lot of directing work, and is awarded to the director who contributed to the development of the theater by prominent until the year. The new'Young Director Award', which was established in 2019, is awarded to directors who have demonstrated the possibility of leading the development of Korean theater in the future through remarkable directing work. |

Lim Hong-sik's actor's award Lim Hong-sik's actor's award is a prize to honor Lim Hong-sik (1954~2015) who was innocent with myocardial infarction after the performance of the National Theater'Josi Goa, Seed of Revenge'. Lim Hong-shik Actor Award is directed by Go Seon-woong of'Jo-si Goa, Seed of Revenge', which became the work of the actor Lim Hong-shik, and the Korean Association of Directors. In order to promote the morale of the actors, the'Im Hongsik Actor Award' was established. This award provides an opportunity to confirm the self-esteem of the theater artists once again, and is a meaningful prize that reflects on the value and meaning of life as an actor. |
